Breast lift surgery is a plastic surgery procedure that is usually performed to restore the breast to its ideal shape. Breast tissue can change in women for different reasons. The main component of this tissue is fat. Unusual changes such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, excessive weight gain and loss can affect breast tissue, resulting in sagging or loss of lift. Breast lift surgery aims to eliminate such problems.
If the nipples are above the upper border of the breast, there is usually no aesthetic problem. However, if the nipples have shifted below this limit and especially if the nipples look down, breast lift surgery may be recommended.

HOW IS BREAST LIFT SURGERY PERFORMED?
First of all, the degree of breast sagging and the current breast condition are evaluated by examination. Decisions about which surgical method to use are determined during this examination. Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about 2 hours. Any patient who is physically healthy, over the age of 18 and has a sagging problem may be a suitable candidate for this surgery. There is no major change in breast size during the breast lift procedure, unless it is combined with breast augmentation or reduction surgeries.
The surgery is performed in a similar way to breast reduction. An appropriate incision is made and the breast tissue under the skin is elevated to the desired position and reshaped. If the dark areas of the nipples are enlarged, these areas are narrowed. Excess skin tissue is removed and, if necessary, breast tissue can also be removed for reduction. During surgery, the breast remains in an upright position for an extended period of time with an "internal bra structure" created from the breast tissue.
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY
Before the operation, medications such as blood thinners and herbal supplements that carry a risk of bleeding are stopped at least 2-3 weeks before the operation under the supervision of a doctor. Smoking should also be stopped before surgery as it may delay wound healing after surgery.
If the patient has the intention to lose weight, this should be done before surgery. Even weight loss of 10 percent of body weight after surgery can cause serious deformations in the breast tissue.
Postoperative pain can be easily controlled by following the patient in the hospital overnight. The patient can usually return to normal life completely within 1 week to 10 days after surgery. For about two months, however, it is recommended to protect the breast tissue from impact or similar trauma.
